Opera singer REBEKA RADOVAN is the winner of the Sam Smerkolje Professional Award for 2010, awarded by the Slovenian Chamber Music Theatre. The award was presented to the member of the soloist ensemble SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana on November 10, 2010 in the Šoštanj Cultural Center during the performance by Theater Director WA Mozart.
This year's winner was judged by an expert committee consisting of conductors Franco Rizmal and Simon Robinson and pianist Jelena Boljubaš. This year's winner, Rebeka Radovan, after passing the final exam at the Secondary School of Music and Ballet in Ljubljana, where she studied solo singing with Zlata Ognjanović and chamber music with Tomaž Lorenzo, enrolled in the study of German and Spanish. She did not continue her studies, as in 1989 she got a job as a chorister at SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana. In 1993, she became a soloist.
In her repertoire we can find many episodic solo and more than 15 supporting opera roles: Aida (Aida), Rusalka (Rusalka), Manon (Manon), Luisa Miller (Luisa Miller), Melisande (Peleas and Melisande), Amelia (Dance in Masks) , Mimi (La Boheme), Minka (The Nightingale of Gorenjski), Marinka (Broken Bride), Nedda (Actors), Micaela (Carmen), Countess Almaviva (The Marriage of Figaro) and others. In her mature artistic period, she decided to continue her studies at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana under the tutelage of mezzo-soprano Alenka Dernač Bunt. Radovanova also works as a concert singer.
She often collaborates with the Slovenian Chamber Music Theater and is an interpreter of roles in the operas The Phantom in Handel's House (Alcina), The Theater Director (Madame Lange), Pierrot and Pierrette (Silva d'Oraine), The Deceived Judge (Georgette) and The Trickster and the Old Maid (Miss Pinkerton).
